2012 Oakville Chardonnay
The fourth vintage of our Chardonnay benefits from what we learned from our first three releases. We again used the natural yeast present in the vineyard for fermentation and also set out to keep the malolactic fermentation to a minimum, creating a wine with great complexity and freshness. We utilized 85% French oak, both new and used, and 15% stainless steel barrels while sur lie ageing and stirring lightly for 10 months before going to bottle. Pale yellow in color, this wine displays aromas of Canary melon, tangerine, Anjou pear, kiwi, lemon zest and jasmine. Flavors of orange blossoms, toffee, crème brulee, hazelnut, honeycomb and star fruit compliment the balanced acidity on the palate.

“The 2012 Chardonnay is gorgeous. White flowers, mint, apricots and lemon oil all meld together in the glass. The style is bright and floral, with lovely depth and no sense of heaviness. The 2012 does a great job of capturing Napa Valley richness while maintaining a gorgeous sense of poise and balance. The 2012 is done in a combination of oak and steel, with native fermentations but blocked malolactics.” ~ Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate.
